In a tragic turn of events, a 17-year-old girl and her 19-year-old friend have been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the February shooting death of her 20-year-old brother in Miami-Dade County, Florida.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, Rae’quan Smith was shot on February 7 on Southwest 266th Street in Naranja. Deputies arrived at the scene just before midnight to find that Smith had been transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Months into the investigation, authorities arrested Deashia Smith, 17, and Elton Hightower, 19, charging both with second-degree murder with a deadly weapon.
