According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, Rae’quan Smith was shot on February 7 on Southwest 266th Street in Naranja. Deputies arrived at the scene just before midnight to find that Smith had been transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Months into the investigation, authorities arrested Deashia Smith, 17, and Elton Hightower, 19, charging both with second-degree murder with a deadly weapon. The motive behind the shooting has not been disclosed, and it remains unclear what led to the involvement of Smith’s younger sister in the fatal incident.

The case has shocked the local community, raising questions about the circumstances that could lead to such a devastating family tragedy. Both suspects are currently in custody as the legal proceedings continue.
