Ardrey Kell High School Principal Jamie Brooks Suspended Amid Ongoing Investigations
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) has confirmed that Jamie Brooks, principal of Ardrey Kell High School, was suspended with pay on May 2, 2025. The district has not disclosed the reason for the suspension, citing it as a personnel matter.

In a message to Ardrey Kell families, CMS stated that Brooks would be “away for a period” and assured that the daily operations of the school would continue uninterrupted. Assistant Principal Tomica Wright has been appointed as the lead school administrator during Brooks’ absence, with support from Performance Area Executive Director Crystal Houser.
Brooks has been with CMS since 1994, starting as a language arts teacher at Carmel Middle School. She became principal of Ardrey Kell in 2020 and received a four-year contract in 2022.
Her suspension comes amid recent incidents at Ardrey Kell High School. In March, a fight between a Muslim female student and a Black male student led to allegations of a racially motivated attack. The FBI investigated the incident and found no evidence to support criminal charges.
The lack of detailed communication regarding Brooks’ suspension has raised concerns among parents and community members. A petition calling for greater transparency has garnered over 600 signatures.
As the situation develops, the school community awaits further information from CMS regarding the circumstances of Brooks’ suspension.
