The incident occurred during Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Knicks and Pacers.

Incident Overview
According to court documents, Funke approached two Knicks fans at the brewery, knocked a hat off one of their heads, and challenged them to a fight. Bar staff intervened and asked Funke and his family to leave the premises. However, Funke allegedly returned shortly after and confronted the fans again on the patio. During the altercation, Funke reportedly stabbed one man in the back and another in the leg. Both victims received medical treatment for their injuries.

Funke has been charged with battery by means of a deadly weapon, battery resulting in serious bodily injury, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, and misdemeanor battery. He claimed self-defense, stating that the fans were “talking s—” to him. However, witnesses reported that Funke was the aggressor in the situation.
Broader Context
The incident has drawn attention to the intense rivalry between the Knicks and Pacers, which dates back to the 1990s. The current playoff series has reignited tensions between the fan bases, with reports of other altercations and heated exchanges.
As the series continues, authorities and team officials are urging fans to maintain civility and respect, emphasizing that while passionate support is welcome, violence and aggression have no place in sports.
