Incident Overview

At approximately 3:30 a.m., Spadaro drove her gray Toyota Corolla into the outbound lane of the CIA’s main entrance, disregarding multiple “Do Not Enter” and “Restricted U.S. Government Installation” signs. CIA police officers activated their lights and sirens in an attempt to stop her, but she continued toward the main security gate, swerving between lanes and accelerating.

As Spadaro approached the gate at high speed, a CIA officer on foot fired at her vehicle, striking her. She then crashed into a barrier and was taken into custody. Spadaro was transported to INOVA Fairfax Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigation and Charges

While en route to the hospital, Spadaro admitted to a CIA officer that she had been drinking at Patsy’s, a bar in Vienna, Virginia, prior to the incident. The officer noted that Spadaro’s eyes were glossy and bloodshot, and she emitted a strong odor of alcohol.

Court documents reveal that Spadaro has a prior DUI conviction from 2021 in Virginia. She now faces federal charges of DUI on federal property and eluding law enforcement.

Security Implications

The CIA’s main gate was temporarily closed following the incident, with employees directed to use alternate routes. The FBI is leading the investigation, and there is no indication that the incident is connected to any broader security threats.

This event underscores the importance of vigilant security measures at sensitive government installations and the potential dangers posed by impaired driving.
