Get Ready: SSI Is Changing Payment Dates — Will You Get Paid Twice?
Hey, if you get Supplemental Security Income (SSI), listen up — there’s a little twist with your payments this May that might catch you off guard if you’re not prepared.
What’s Going On?
Normally, you get your SSI money on the first day of the month, right? Well, this time, the Social Security folks are switching things up a bit because June 1, 2025, falls on a Sunday.
So instead of waiting until June 1, they’re sending out June’s payment early — on May 30. That means you’ll see two payments in May: one on May 1 and another right at the end of the month.
Sounds like a bonus, but it’s really just a timing thing — so heads up, there won’t be a payment on June 1. Just a little shift in the schedule.
How Much Are We Talking?
The max you can get this year is:
-
$967 if you’re on your own
-
$1,450 if you and your spouse both get SSI
-
$484 if you’re an “essential person” helping out someone else who gets SSI
Your actual payment depends on your income and situation, so it might be less.

Who Gets SSI?
Basically, it’s for people who:
-
Are 65 or older, or
-
Have a serious disability or blindness that’s expected to last at least a year
If you’re not sure if you qualify, it’s easy enough to check with the Social Security Administration or someone who knows the ropes.
What Should You Do Now?
-
Watch your bank account in May — you might see two deposits.
-
Remember there won’t be a payment on June 1, so plan your bills and spending carefully.
-
Keep an eye on official SSA updates just in case anything else changes.
If you haven’t signed up yet but think you should, check out ssa.gov or ask for help.
Getting paid twice in one month sounds great, but it’s just the SSA making sure you get your money before the weekend. No free extra cash this time — just a little scheduling shuffle.
