The Incident

On the evening of May 29, 2025, deputies from the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a shooting at a residence. Upon arrival, they found a man in the driveway suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm. The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, informed authorities that he had been attacked by his ex-girlfriend, Ruby Ealy, 48, and her brother, Darius Ealy.

According to the victim, a verbal argument with Ruby escalated when she attempted to strike him with a baseball bat but missed. Subsequently, Darius allegedly emerged from the side of the residence and shot the victim. While the victim was on the ground, both siblings reportedly punched him multiple times, all while stating that “he should die”.

Arrests and Charges

Ruby Ealy was arrested at the scene and charged with principal to attempted second-degree murder and domestic abuse battery. She initially claimed that she and the victim had a verbal argument that turned physical after she asked him to leave the residence. Ruby stated that she went back inside to arm herself with a bat and later heard gunshots from inside the house. She eventually identified her brother, Darius Ealy, as the individual who shot her ex-boyfriend.

Darius Ealy was not present when authorities arrived, and his whereabouts remain unknown. Law enforcement officials are actively searching for him in connection with the shooting.

Community Impact

This incident has raised concerns about domestic violence and the escalation of personal disputes into violent confrontations. Authorities urge individuals involved in volatile relationships to seek help and utilize available resources to prevent such tragedies.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about Darius Ealy’s location is encouraged to contact the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office.
