Devin Harjes, Acclaimed Actor Known for ‘Boardwalk Empire’ and ‘Daredevil,’ Dies at 41
Devin Harjes, a versatile actor celebrated for his compelling roles in television series such as Boardwalk Empire, Daredevil, and Manifest, has passed away at the age of 41. He died on May 27, 2025, at Mount Sinai West Hospital in New York City, following a brief battle with cancer diagnosed earlier this year.

A Promising Career Cut Short
Born in Lubbock, Texas, Harjes cultivated a passion for the performing arts early in life. After studying acting in college, he began his career in the Dallas–Fort Worth theater scene before relocating to New York City to pursue opportunities in film and television. His breakout role came in 2011 when he portrayed boxing legend Jack Dempsey in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, a performance that garnered critical acclaim.
Harjes’s television repertoire expanded with notable appearances in series such as Daredevil, where he played the character Oscar, as well as roles in Gotham, Orange Is the New Black, Elementary, Blue Bloods, and FBI. His final and perhaps most prominent role was as Pete Baylor in the supernatural drama Manifest, appearing in nine episodes between 2020 and 2021.
Beyond the Screen
Outside of his acting career, Harjes was known for his deep connection to nature and animals, a reflection of his upbringing in Texas. He was an accomplished horseback rider and had a profound affinity for the outdoors. His interests also included martial arts and fitness, pursuits he often credited with grounding him amidst the demands of his profession.

Harjes is survived by his parents, Randy and Rosanne Harjes; his sister, Trish Harjes, and her husband, Justin Kelley; his nieces and nephews; his former wife, Shiva Shobitha; and his beloved cat, Maude.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to TKC Blessings, an organization dedicated to providing arts scholarships for children—a cause that was close to Harjes’s heart.
Devin Harjes’s dedication to his craft and his ability to bring depth to a wide range of characters left an indelible mark on audiences and colleagues alike. His contributions to the arts will be remembered and cherished by many.
