Jacksonville, Florida — A 26-year-old man is facing serious charges after allegedly threatening to harm protesters during a recent anti-ICE demonstration. According to police, Zachary Degross posted a chilling message online suggesting that he would run over the demonstrators. He also added that they “should go with” the people being deported.

Authorities arrested Degross shortly after the post was discovered. While no physical attack occurred, investigators treated the threat seriously and booked him on felony charges tied to online threats of violence.

The protests he referred to were part of a wave of national demonstrations against recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation raids. Rallies erupted in cities like Los Angeles, Austin, and San Antonio, with some turning chaotic. In L.A., nearly 1,000 protesters were arrested after tensions boiled over. In Texas, Governor Greg Abbott warned demonstrators not to “cross the line,” and the National Guard was deployed in some areas.

Back in Florida, the tone turned especially dark. Law enforcement says the rise of online threats, even those that may seem like rants, is being taken more seriously as political tensions grow. A separate incident in Florida showed a man filming ICE agents and threatening to shoot them during a recorded confrontation.

Officials say this case sends a message: threatening violence, even from behind a keyboard, is a criminal act that won’t be ignored.

Degross is now awaiting trial and could face harsh penalties if convicted. The incident adds to growing concern about the safety of both protesters and law enforcement as immigration debates fuel emotional and sometimes dangerous confrontations across the country.
