Mother’s Nightmare: Her Kids Abandoned in Car During High-Speed Police Pursuit
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — Fort Lauderdale police are searching for a driver who fled a routine traffic stop on the morning of June 17, abandoning a car with two preteen children inside.

Officers initiated the stop around Northeast 62nd Street after observing a vehicle being driven erratically. Instead of stopping, the driver sped off, prompting a short chase. The pursuit ended when the driver abandoned the vehicle near the 1700 block of Northeast 56th Street, leaving the children unharmed but alone in the car.
A nearby resident, Sandra Williams, said, “I was in my bedroom, got up, and saw a white car. It was left right in front of my house.” Police recovered the vehicle, ensured the children were safe, and promptly reunited them with their mother.
The city’s police helicopter and K‑9 units coordinated with ground officers to search the neighborhood for the suspect . As of the latest update, the driver remains at large. Authorities have not confirmed any relationship between the suspect and the children.
