WAYNE COUNTY, S.C. — A celebration turned into horror late Saturday around 11 p.m., as gunfire erupted near the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall during a Juneteenth party. Witnesses described scenes of panic: “hundreds of people scattered”—families, kids, and veterans were fleeing for cover as bullets flew through the air.

Local authorities confirm one person died at the scene and nine others were injured by gunfire. The injured include both adults and minors, with at least one teenager among them. The victims were rushed to area hospitals in critical but stable condition.
