Littleton, CO — What should have been a normal Saturday morning grocery run turned into a nightmare for a Colorado grandmother and her 8-year-old granddaughter — when a stranger allegedly tried to kidnap the little girl not once, but twice inside a local Safeway.

It all happened so quickly.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, 34-year-old Bradley Mikel Wilson approached the family while they were in the produce aisle. He didn’t know them. He looked straight at the grandmother and asked a question that made her heart stop: “May I borrow your child?”

Before she could process what was happening, police say Wilson reached for the girl and began pulling her away.

But the grandmother didn’t hesitate. She shouted, grabbed her granddaughter, and refused to let go. The little girl broke free and ran to safety. Wilson fled the store.

The grandmother, still shaken, thought it was over. But just a few minutes later, Wilson came back.

This time, store employees who had seen what happened jumped into action. They stepped between Wilson and the family, shouting at him until he turned and walked out a second time.

Deputies found him a short time later near Highway 285 and Willow Springs Road. He was arrested without a struggle and now faces charges of second-degree attempted kidnapping.

The young girl was not physically harmed, but her family is traumatized. “We go to that store all the time,” a relative said. “You never think something like this can happen in broad daylight, with people everywhere.”

Store workers have been praised for their quick thinking, and many in the community are calling the grandmother a hero.

“She didn’t freeze,” one witness said. “She didn’t panic. She protected her granddaughter with everything she had.”

The sheriff’s office is urging families to stay alert, even in familiar places, and to speak up if they see something suspicious. For this family, it’s a terrifying memory they’ll never forget — but one they’re grateful didn’t end in tragedy.
