7-Year-Old Girl Dies After Alleged Attack by Her Own Mother — Medical Examiner Confirms Homicide
Lakeland, Fla. (ZIP: 33801)– June 30, 2025 — A 34-year-old Lakeland woman has been charged with second-degree murder after allegedly delivering a fatal blow to her 7-year-old daughter’s abdomen, causing internal bleeding, according to Polk County authorities.
The incident occurred inside a home near East Bella Vista Street and Chestnut Road. Deputies responded to an emergency call late Saturday evening after the child was found unresponsive. The victim was transported to the hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
An autopsy revealed that the child died from blunt force trauma to the abdomen, consistent with a strong blow. The Polk County Medical Examiner ruled the manner of death as a homicide.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd did not mince words during a press briefing on Monday.

“This was not an accident,” he said. “This was a deliberate and violent act. That child suffered, and she had no one to protect her.”
Neighbors expressed shock, saying they had no indication that something so horrific was happening behind closed doors.
“She seemed like a normal mom,” said Tasha Ramirez, who lives across the street. “We had no idea what was going on inside that house.”
This is the third case in Polk County this year involving the death of a child under suspicious circumstances tied to alleged parental abuse.
Authorities have not released the name of the accused mother to protect the identity of surviving minors in the home. Florida’s Department of Children and Families (DCF) has confirmed that an internal review is underway to determine whether there were prior warnings or reports linked to the household.

“We’re urging every neighbor, teacher, or friend — if you see or suspect abuse, say something,” Sheriff Judd added. “It could save a child’s life.”
The mother is currently being held without bond at the Polk County Jail. Her arraignment is scheduled for later this week.
