Soundview (10473) – In a deeply disturbing case of alleged deception and endangerment, a Bronx man has been arrested for knowingly exposing a woman to HIV without disclosing his status, even as she is now 7 months pregnant with his child. The victim, a 27-year-old woman from Soundview, told authorities she only learned of his status after discovering old prescription bottles hidden in his apartment.

Police arrested Jamal Hicks, 34, on Tuesday evening following a complaint filed last month. Investigators say Hicks had been aware of his HIV-positive status since 2019 but failed to disclose it to multiple partners. The woman, whose identity remains confidential for safety reasons, is currently receiving antiretroviral treatment in an attempt to protect both her and the unborn child.
Detectives warn there may be other victims. The NYPD has issued a public health alert urging any women who had recent unprotected contact with Hicks to seek immediate testing.
“This isn’t just a personal betrayal—it’s a public health emergency,” said Lt. Ramon Cortez of the Bronx Special Victims Unit.
