San Francisco is in for a frigid wake-up call as a Freeze Warning and Frost Advisory have been issued for tonight through early morning. The National Weather Service warns of dangerously cold temperatures that could threaten crops, pipes, and the well-being of unsheltered individuals. Here’s what you need to know to stay safe.

Urgent Alert: Freezing Temperatures Threaten Bay Area – Here's How to Stay Safe

Starting at 1 AM and lasting until 9 AM Tuesday, temperatures are expected to plunge into the upper 20s to mid-30s across the interior Central Coast, Santa Clara Valley, and southern East Bay Hills and Mountains. This Freeze Warning highlights serious risks for exposed vegetation, unprotected pipes, and vulnerable populations.

A Frost Advisory will also be in effect for areas around Monterey Bay and other inland regions away from the coastline. Frost formation during the advisory period could damage sensitive plants and pose health risks for those without adequate shelter.

Looking ahead, a Freeze Watch has already been announced for late Tuesday night through Thursday morning, extending to most of the Bay Area, including San Francisco’s shoreline. Residents are advised to remain cautious as colder nights are expected to follow this current warning.

To prepare, ensure outdoor plants are covered, pets are brought indoors, and exposed pipes are insulated. If you or someone you know is without shelter, seek assistance from local warming centers or emergency services.

Stay informed and stay warm, San Francisco. With temperatures this low, preparedness is key to avoiding any chilly surprises
