Ex-prosecutor’s trial ends as judge throws out her felony indictment in Ahmaud Arbery death case
The trial of a former Georgia prosecutor who was accused of abusing her position of authority to shield the individuals who pursued and killed Ahmaud Arbery in 2020 has come to an end after a judge dismissed the criminal accusation against her. At the time of Arbery’s shooting death over five years ago, District Attorney Jackie Johnson was the senior prosecutor in coastal Glynn County.
The 2021 indictment accusing Johnson of breaking her oath of office was dropped by Senior Judge John R. Turner on Wednesday because to technical problems in its language. Johnson was cleared of a misdemeanor charge of obstructing police on Monday by the same judge. Arbery was shot dead after being chased through their area by three white males in pickup trucks. They were later found guilty of hate crimes and murder.
