19-Year-Old Arrested in Connection with Fatal Shooting in Deerfield Beach
Deerfield Beach authorities have arrested a 19-year-old suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of another 19-year-old over the weekend. The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) confirmed the arrest of Kenneth Philpart Jr., who is accused of shooting Jonathan Isaiah Johnson on Saturday evening.
The incident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. near the 600 block of Southwest 14th Street. Deputies responded to reports of an armed man in the area, and while investigating, they heard a gunshot. A few blocks away, Johnson was found suffering from a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to Broward Health North, where he was later pronounced dead.
As authorities secured the area, a BSO helicopter spotted Philpart Jr. in his underwear, holding a gun near the 1300 block of Southwest Sixth Terrace. Upon spotting law enforcement, the suspect attempted to flee. However, deputies pursued him and eventually found him hiding inside a trash can.
Following his arrest, Philpart Jr. was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation before being booked into custody. Authorities have yet to reveal a possible motive for the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
