IRS Sends Out $1,400 Stimulus Payments: Find Out If You’re Eligible Today!

53

The IRS is sending out stimulus payments to taxpayers who missed out on previous relief funds. Up to $1,400 is being distributed to about 1 million people who failed to claim their 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit. If you’re one of them, you can track the status of your payment through the IRS’s official tool. Here’s everything you need to know.

How to Check Your Payment Status

To check if your stimulus payment is on its way, you can use the IRS’s “Get My Payment” tool. This easy-to-use portal lets you find out whether your payment is being processed and when to expect it.

  • Where to Check: Go to the official IRS “Get My Payment” website at www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment.

  • Information You’ll Need: You’ll need your Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), date of birth, and your mailing address.

The tool will show you whether your payment has been sent out, and if it’s been sent via direct deposit or mail. It will also tell you the exact date your payment is scheduled to arrive.

Key Details to Keep in Mind

  • Daily Updates: The “Get My Payment” tool updates once a day, usually at midnight. So, if you don’t see an update immediately, try again the next day.

  • Payment Status Not Available: If you see the message “Payment Status Not Available,” it could mean that you’re not eligible for the payment. In such cases, you might not have filed a tax return or your income might not meet the eligibility criteria.

  • Non-Filers: If you receive Social Security, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits, your payment status might not appear in the tool right away. The IRS is working directly with these agencies to issue payments.

Eligibility for the $1,400 Payment

To qualify for this round of stimulus checks, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. File Your 2021 Tax Return: Ensure that you file your 2021 federal tax return by April 15, 2025. If you’ve already filed, the IRS will use that return to determine your eligibility.

  2. Income Limits:

    • Single Filers: If your adjusted gross income (AGI) is $75,000 or less, you’ll receive the full $1,400. The payment will gradually decrease if your AGI is between $75,000 and $80,000.

    • Married Filing Jointly: Couples earning up to $150,000 (AGI) will get the full payment, while those with an AGI between $150,000 and $160,000 will see their payment decrease.

If you’re eligible, your payment will be issued automatically. However, if you missed a payment in 2021, this is your chance to claim it.
