U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), in collaboration with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), arrested a Honduran national on April 16 in Brockton, Massachusetts. The individual, identified as 40-year-old Oscar Lopez-Perez, had illegally reentered the United States after being deported twice previously. Lopez-Perez has a criminal history in Massachusetts, including a conviction for assault and battery and charges for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. He was taken into custody by ICE Boston, with support from FBI Boston and ATF Boston, and is currently being held by ICE.

Long Record of Illegal Entries and Deportations

Lopez-Perez’s immigration violations date back to May 11, 2008, when he was first arrested by U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) after entering the country illegally. Although he was issued a notice to appear before an immigration judge, records show he had already been ordered removed by a Department of Justice immigration judge on September 15, 2003.

On July 13, 2011, the Brockton District Court convicted him of assault and battery. ICE arrested him again on October 16, 2012, based on his prior removal order, and he was deported to Honduras on January 4, 2013. Just four months later, Lopez-Perez was apprehended again by Border Patrol on May 8, 2013, following another unauthorized reentry. ICE enforced his deportation once more on May 31, 2013. At some point after this, Lopez-Perez reentered the United States yet again—this time undetected—without inspection or legal authorization. On September 21, 2020, the Stoughton District Court arraigned him for driving under the influence and negligent operation of a vehicle.

ICE Cites Public Safety Concerns

Patricia H. Hyde, acting field office director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston, emphasized the agency’s commitment to public safety. “Oscar Lopez-Perez has displayed a complete disregard for U.S. immigration laws by illegally reentering the country after being previously deported,” she said. “Additionally, he has presented a significant threat to the residents of Massachusetts.” Hyde affirmed that ICE Boston will continue to focus on removing individuals who pose risks to local communities. “We will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing criminal alien offenders from our neighborhoods,” she added.

Public Encouraged to Report Suspicious Activity

ICE encourages members of the public to report criminal activity or suspicious behavior. Tips can be submitted by calling 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or through the agency’s online tip form. Lopez-Perez remains in ICE custody as officials continue the enforcement process. Authorities have not disclosed when or how he last reentered the country, only confirming that he did so without undergoing inspection by immigration officials.
