So, you might’ve heard something about a Verizon class action settlement — maybe even gotten a random payment of a couple bucks out of nowhere. If you’re confused about why Verizon is suddenly sending people money, you’re not alone.

Here’s the lowdown in simple terms.

What’s This All About?

For years, Verizon quietly added something called “administrative fees” to customer bills — without really making it clear what those charges were or why they were there. People eventually pushed back, saying the fees were sneaky and unfair. That turned into a lawsuit.

Now, instead of fighting it in court forever, Verizon decided to settle for $100 million. That money’s now being paid out to eligible customers.

Who’s Getting Paid?

If you had a Verizon postpaid plan (not prepaid) between January 1, 2016, and November 8, 2023, and you were charged those admin fees, you were probably part of the group eligible for compensation.

BUT — and this is important — you had to file a claim by April 15, 2024 to actually get any money.

How Much Are People Getting?

The idea was to give people:

$15 automatically if they qualified,
Plus $1 for every month they paid that admin fee,
Up to a max of $100.

So if you were with Verizon for, say, 20 months during that time? You could’ve expected something like $35 (that’s $15 base + $20).

BUT… there’s a catch.

So many people filed claims that the money had to be split more than expected. That means some folks are only seeing a few dollars — like $2.37 in some cases. Yeah, not quite the $100 some were hoping for.

How Are Payments Being Sent?

If you filed a claim and got approved, the money should’ve started going out starting January 6, 2025. You had the choice to get paid by:

Zelle
Venmo
PayPal
Paper check
Or a prepaid debit card

Depending on what you picked, it may have landed already — or it might still be processing.

Why So Little?

Honestly? Just too many people signed up for the payout. The more people who joined the claim, the smaller each piece of the pie got. The $15 minimum wasn’t a sure thing — it was just an estimate based on how many people they thought would file. Turns out, a lot more did.
