Missed the PFD Deadline? Here’s What You Need to Know About the $1,702 Payment!

5

If you live in Alaska, you might be watching your bank account this May for that annual payment — the Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD). This year, the payout is $1,702 per person. Let’s walk through what this check is all about, who qualifies, and when the payments are going out.

What Is the PFD?

The Permanent Fund Dividend has been around for decades. It’s Alaska’s way of sharing the state’s oil revenue with its residents. Each year, a portion of the money earned from oil is set aside, and some of that gets distributed to Alaskans as a way to help out financially.

This year, the payout is $1,702. This amount is made up of:

  • A $1,403.83 base PFD

  • An $298.17 energy relief supplement to help with rising energy costs

Who Qualifies for the 2025 PFD?

To be eligible for this year’s PFD, you need to meet a few requirements:

  1. You had to live in Alaska for the entire year of 2024.

  2. You need to plan on staying in Alaska for the long haul.

  3. You couldn’t claim residency in another state or country during that time.

  4. You shouldn’t have been incarcerated for any felony offenses in 2024.

  5. If you were out of Alaska for more than 180 days, your absence had to be for a valid reason, like military duty or schooling.

  6. You had to be physically present in Alaska for at least 72 hours during 2023 or 2024.

Basically, if you’ve been a full-time Alaska resident and haven’t broken any of these rules, you’re probably good to go.

When Will the Payments Be Sent Out?

Here’s the payment schedule for 2025:

  • March 20, 2025: If you’re eligible but haven’t received payment by March 12, you’ll get your check.

  • April 17, 2025: For anyone who was approved by April 9 but hasn’t received payment yet.

  • May 15, 2025: Payments go out for those approved by May 7.

  • June 18, 2025: If your status is approved by June 11, your payment will be sent.

Payments are made either through direct deposit or by paper check, depending on what you selected when you applied.

How to Check Your Payment Status

If you’re wondering when your payment will arrive or if you’re still waiting, you can easily check your status online. Simply visit the official PFD website and log in to the “myPFD” portal to see your current status and get updates on your payment.

What If You Missed the Deadline?

If you didn’t submit your application by the March 31, 2025 deadline, you won’t be eligible for this year’s payout. Unfortunately, the PFD is strict about its annual application window, so there’s no room for late applications. However, you can set a reminder for next year to make sure you apply on time.

Getting $1,702 just for being a resident of Alaska is a pretty unique benefit. The PFD isn’t just a bonus — it’s a way for Alaska to give back to its people and help offset the high costs of living, especially in more rural areas.
