Millions of Americans are eagerly awaiting news about another round of stimulus checks — and for roughly 600,000 low-income seniors and disabled individuals, the wait might soon be over. A proposed federal relief measure could offer stimulus checks ranging between $1,400 and $3,900, depending on eligibility, income level, and benefit status.

What’s Behind the New Stimulus Proposal?

The proposed checks are part of a targeted economic relief package being debated in Congress. Designed to help those hit hardest by persistent inflation, the plan would deliver lump-sum payments to individuals who meet strict criteria, including many already receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), and low-income veterans’ benefits.

According to sources close to the negotiations, this relief effort is a follow-up to earlier pandemic-era payments and aims to provide financial security to older adults, people with disabilities, and households below the federal poverty line.

Who Might Be Eligible?

To qualify for a stimulus check between $1,400 and $3,900, individuals must typically:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or legal resident

  • Receive SSI, SSDI, or veterans’ disability compensation

  • Have an annual income under $75,000 (individuals) or $150,000 (couples)

  • Have filed 2023 or 2024 tax returns, or are listed in federal benefit databases

  • Not owing back child support or federal debt which disqualifies benefit payouts

The 600,000 Americans mentioned as eligible are primarily seniors on fixed incomes and disabled individuals living below the federal poverty threshold.

When Will It Be Announced?

While no official date has been set, the proposal is expected to advance through the committee before the end of May 2025, with a possible June or July rollout if approved. The Treasury Department and Social Security Administration are preparing distribution plans to enable fast-track direct deposits and mailed checks once funding is authorised.

Until then, lawmakers continue to debate the total relief package amount and whether the highest-tier payments — up to $3,900 — should be distributed as a single check or broken into multiple payments.
