Florida Man Kills Mom with Shovel, Hides Body in Trash—Police Horrified
A Florida man is facing first-degree murder charges after police say he brutally killed his mother with a shovel and attempted to conceal her body by stuffing it into a garbage bin. Prosecutors and the public defender’s office are reportedly engaged in preliminary discussions on a potential plea agreement amid growing public outrage over the horrific crime.

Authorities say 29-year-old Terrence Boyd (name changed for privacy) was arrested late last month after neighbours reported a foul odour and suspicious behaviour near his Orlando home. Responding officers discovered the body of Boyd’s 62-year-old mother wrapped in plastic and concealed inside a city-issued garbage container behind the residence.
The medical examiner’s report confirmed the victim died from blunt force trauma to the head, consistent with being struck multiple times by a shovel, which investigators later recovered from the scene. Surveillance footage from nearby homes showed Boyd dragging the trash bin from the backyard late at night.
According to court filings, Boyd has a history of mental illness and had previously been placed under psychiatric evaluation. Neighbours also reported frequent shouting and disturbances at the home in the weeks leading up to the alleged murder.
During his initial court appearance, Boyd was described as “disoriented and evasive.” Prosecutors have labelled the crime “particularly heinous” and say the evidence against him is overwhelming. “There’s no question who did this, and how,” one official said. “We’re pushing to move straight to the plea section of this case to deliver justice swiftly.”
Boyd is currently being held without bail in Orange County Jail. A formal arraignment is scheduled for later this month. If convicted, he could face life in prison or the death penalty, depending on whether prosecutors pursue capital charges.
The motive remains unclear, but sources close to the investigation say there may have been a long-standing conflict between the suspect and his mother over financial and housing issues.
