Campus Tragedy: FSU Shooting Suspect Now in Custody
Phoenix Ikner, the 20-year-old Florida State University (FSU) student accused of a deadly campus shooting last month, has been released from the hospital and is now in custody at the Wakulla County Detention Facility. Ikner faces two counts of first-degree murder and seven counts of attempted murder following the April 17 incident that left two people dead and six others injured.

The Incident
The shooting occurred around 11:50 a.m. on April 17 at FSU’s Student Union Building. Ikner allegedly opened fire using a handgun, resulting in the deaths of 57-year-old campus dining director Robert Morales and 45-year-old Aramark executive Tiru Chabba. Six others were wounded before campus police intervened, shooting Ikner in the jaw after he reportedly failed to comply with commands.
Hospitalisation and Transfer
Ikner underwent multiple surgeries during his nearly month-long hospitalisation. Upon his release on May 12, he was initially booked into the Leon County Detention Facility but was later transferred to Wakulla County to avoid potential conflicts of interest, as his stepmother is a deputy with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.
Legal Proceedings
Ikner is scheduled to make his first court appearance today at 11 a.m. Authorities have not disclosed a motive for the shooting, and no attorney has been listed for Ikner as of now.
