Big Kia-Hyundai Settlement Alert: Could You Get Thousands Back? Find Out Now!
If you’ve got a Kia or Hyundai from 2011 to 2022, you might have heard about this big lawsuit going around. The deal is some of these cars didn’t have a key security feature — an engine immobilizer — which basically means they were way easier to steal than they should’ve been. Not great, right?
Because of that, a bunch of folks got together and sued Kia and Hyundai. Now, there’s a settlement on the table that could get you some help — and maybe even some money back.
So, What’s the Lawsuit About?
Basically, the problem is these cars were missing a tech safeguard that stops thieves from hotwiring them. This led to a big spike in thefts.
People were upset — understandably — and said the companies should’ve done more to protect their cars. After a lot of legal wrangling, Kia and Hyundai are offering a deal to make things right.
What’s in This Deal for You?
Here’s what Kia and Hyundai are offering if you qualify:
-
Free Software Upgrade: They’ll install a software update on your car to make it harder for anyone to start it without your key.
-
Get Money Back for Anti-Theft Stuff: If you bought steering wheel locks or alarms, you can claim up to $300 back.
-
Cover Some Theft Costs: If your car was stolen or someone tried to steal it, you might get reimbursed for insurance deductibles, rental cars, or other costs.
Who’s Eligible?
If your Kia or Hyundai was made between 2011 and 2022, you’re probably in. Just check your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the official websites to be sure.
Deadlines You Need to Know
Don’t wait around — you’ve got until April 28, 2025 to file a claim if you want to get anything.
If you’re thinking, “I don’t want in,” or if you want to raise objections, the deadline for that is May 3, 2025.
There’s a final court hearing that happened back on July 15, 2024, which means they’re still working out the details.
When Will You Get Paid?
The money isn’t flowing yet because there are still some appeals to deal with. But if all goes smoothly, you could start seeing payments between September 2025 and June 2026.

This settlement is a pretty big deal if you own one of these cars. The software update alone helps keep your ride safer, and the reimbursements could cover some past headaches.
