A Life Rooted in Faith and Family

Born on April 24, 1946, in Vivian, Louisiana, Phil Robertson was a standout quarterback at Louisiana Tech University, famously starting ahead of future NFL Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw. Despite opportunities in professional football, Robertson chose a different path, prioritizing his passion for duck hunting over a potential sports career.

In 1972, he founded Duck Commander, a company specializing in duck calls and hunting gear. The business became the foundation for the A&E reality series “Duck Dynasty,” which aired from 2012 to 2017. The show chronicled the lives of the Robertson family, highlighting their Christian faith, entrepreneurial spirit, and Southern lifestyle.

Controversies and Public Persona

Robertson was known for his outspoken conservative views and deep Christian faith. In 2013, he faced suspension from “Duck Dynasty” following controversial remarks in a GQ interview, where he equated homosexuality with other behaviors he considered sinful. The suspension was lifted after public backlash from fans and supporters.

Throughout his life, Robertson remained a vocal supporter of conservative political figures, including endorsements of Ted Cruz and Donald Trump during their respective presidential campaigns.

Health Struggles and Passing

In December 2024, Robertson’s family publicly disclosed his Alzheimer’s diagnosis during an episode of their podcast, “Unashamed with the Robertson Family.” His health continued to decline, with reports of additional ailments, including a blood disorder and back issues.

Robertson passed away surrounded by family. His daughter-in-law, Korie Robertson, shared the news on social media, stating, “We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord.” She added that the family plans to hold a private service, with details of a public celebration of his life to be announced later.

Legacy and Tributes

Phil Robertson’s legacy extends beyond television. He was a businessman, author, and speaker who inspired many with his faith-driven messages. Tributes have poured in from fans and public figures alike. Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders praised him as a “man of deep faith and conviction,” while conservative commentator Charlie Kirk described him as a “resilient cultural icon”.

Robertson is survived by his wife, Kay, whom he married in 1966, their five children, including sons Jase and Willie, and numerous grandchildren. His influence continues through his family’s ongoing ventures and the upcoming “Duck Dynasty” spinoff series set to premiere this summer.
