Teen’s Selfless Act on Graduation Night Sparks $200K in Donations for College Dreams

In a heartwarming tale of dedication and community support, 18-year-old Mykale Baker from Dacula, Georgia, chose to help his coworkers at Burger King on his graduation night, leading to an outpouring of generosity that has transformed his future.

A Night of Celebration Turns into Service

After graduating from Mill Creek High School on May 21, 2025, Baker stopped by his workplace in his graduation attire for a meal. Noticing his colleagues overwhelmed during a busy shift, he instinctively jumped in to assist, still wearing his cap and gown. “I wasn’t even clocked in,” Baker said. “I just put gloves on and said, ‘What do you all need help with?'”

Viral Recognition and Community Support

Customer Maria Mendoza witnessed Baker’s act of kindness and shared a video on TikTok, which quickly went viral, amassing over 4.4 million views. Moved by his dedication, Mendoza initiated a GoFundMe campaign titled “From Burger King to College Dream,” aiming to support Baker’s educational aspirations. The campaign resonated with thousands, raising over $200,000.

Scholarships and Future Plans

In addition to the donations, the Burger King Foundation awarded Baker a $10,000 scholarship. Recognizing Mendoza’s efforts, the foundation also granted a $10,000 scholarship to her daughter, Daizie Chavez, who plans to study neuroscience at Georgia State University.

Baker, who had considered a gap year or joining the Army due to financial constraints, now plans to attend Gwinnett Technical College to study automotive technology, aspiring to become a master auto mechanic and eventually open his own shop.

A Testament to Character and Community

Raised by a single mother as the youngest of eight siblings, Baker’s selflessness has been a consistent trait, earning him the title of “Most Selfless Person” by his high school band.
