The children’s father told investigators he was crossing a one-way street with all six of his children when a car came “flying out of the sky,” striking his two daughters. The crash was forceful enough to toss the baby—and her stroller—completely airborne.

The baby suffered critical injuries, including a broken neck, and endured six cardiac arrests before passing away Saturday—on her first birthday, per medical records cited by The Union Leader. Her 11-year-old sister was seriously injured, sustaining multiple fractures and a punctured lung, but is currently in stable condition in hospital care .

Officers tracked the suspect’s vehicle to a second crash just a few blocks away. The driver, identified as Justin LaClair, was found walking away from the wreckage and arrested. According to police, LaClair smelled of alcohol, had glassy eyes, and was slurring his speech. He initially denied driving, then later admitted to drinking but said he “doesn’t remember hitting the children”.

Dashcam and witness footage reportedly show LaClair driving the wrong way on the one-way road, ignoring “Do Not Enter” signs, speeding, and going airborne before striking the sisters. He proceeded five more blocks before crashing into another vehicle and a utility pole.

LaClair faces six charges, including aggravated driving while intoxicated, reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, and hit-and-run. He is being held without bail and is scheduled for a probable-cause hearing on June 23.
