The suspect, identified as Gad Black, 40, was arrested after reportedly targeting Sergeant Caleb Eisworth, a 23-year veteran of the Baton Rouge Police Department. According to investigators, Sgt. Eisworth was riding his police motorcycle when Black struck him with a Ford F-150, dragging his body down the street.

Black didn’t keep the act to himself. Authorities say shortly after the attack, he posted about it on Facebook, openly bragging about what he had done. This online confession helped law enforcement track him down. He was arrested near the Academy Sports store on Siegen Lane.

Police confirmed that this wasn’t Black’s first run-in with the law. In 2014, he was arrested for aggravated assault with a vehicle against police officers. At the time, he was given probation.

As for Sgt. Eisworth, he remains hospitalized with serious injuries. He suffered two broken legs, a broken arm, and multiple internal injuries. Despite the severity of the incident, doctors say he’s showing promising signs of recovery — he’s been able to squeeze his wife’s hand, move his leg, and give a thumbs-up to his medical team.

The Baton Rouge community and fellow officers are rallying behind Sgt. Eisworth, hoping for a full recovery. Meanwhile, Black is now facing attempted first-degree murder charges, with more charges likely to follow as the investigation unfolds.

Police are continuing to review social media and surveillance footage as they build their case.
