Shocking Secret Wedding: Woman Marries Ex After Breakup—Without Him Even There
Beverly Hills, Texas — A Waco woman is in custody and facing felony stalking charges after allegedly tricking a pastor into certifying a marriage to her ex-fiancé—without his knowledge or presence.

According to police, 36-year-old Kristin Marie Spearman convinced her then-boyfriend to get a marriage license with her around June 2. But after a breakup following an argument, the two never held a wedding.
Undeterred, Spearman allegedly convinced a reverend to officially sign a marriage certificate—without the ex present—and filed it with McLennan County. On June 13, the ex discovered the document after receiving a surprise gift bag from Bath & Body Works containing the certificate and a photo of Spearman proudly holding the license.
Beverly Hills Police Chief Kory Martin expressed disbelief, saying he couldn’t recall anything like it in his 23-year career. He highlighted concerns over the victim’s safety and the legal complications now facing him in undoing the unauthorized union.
Spearman was arrested near Hewitt by Waco-area authorities, charged with third-degree felony stalking, and held in the McLennan County Jail under a $10,000 bond.
Legal experts note that, under Texas law, both parties—and sometimes the officiant—must be present at a wedding ceremony. This case has triggered concerns that the marriage license and filing are invalid and could be quickly voided. Attention now turns to whether the pastor is implicated, and what consequences Spearman—or others involved—might face next.
What Happens Next?
-
Legal undoing: The victim must pursue an annulment or judicial declaration of invalidity to nullify the certificate.
-
Pastor’s role: Authorities are investigating whether the officiant knowingly participated in the ruse.
-
Safety & property: The victim is understandably concerned about how this sham marriage might affect his rights and assets.
-
Next court dates: More hearings will clarify how the marriage process was violated—and what penalties Spearman could face.
