Nevada Boy Kept Locked in Bedroom by Adoptive Parents Since Age 5
LAS VEGAS — Police have uncovered a devastating case of child confinement after a Nevada boy was found locked in his bedroom by his adoptive parents since he was just 5 years old.

The 17-year-old youth was rescued in June 2025 when concerned teachers contacted authorities about his lack of school attendance and signs of malnourishment. Investigators discovered that the boy had been confined to a single room for most of his life, severely limited in food, water, education, and social interaction.
He told police he was only allowed to leave the room once or twice a week, and even then—with strict supervision. Water was scarce and meals were passed under the door. His bedroom door was locked from the outside with a bolt, preventing any exit without permission.
Medical evaluation confirmed the boy was profoundly underweight and showed signs of vitamin deficiency. Authorities believe this extreme isolation began around his 5th birthday, shortly after he stopped attending school.
The adoptive mother and father, whose names are withheld pending arraignment, now face serious charges: child endangerment, unlawful imprisonment, and neglect. They are currently detained without bail.
School administrators and social workers are being questioned to determine whether there were missed opportunities to intervene earlier. As the investigation continues, the boy is now in state care, receiving medical treatment and counseling.
This shocking case has sparked renewed discussion about gaps in oversight of adopted and homeschooled children, and how isolated environments can hide severe abuse for years.
