Texas Man Kills Parents and Pets, Shoots Deputy in the Face, Then Ends His Own Life
Normangee, TX – A horrifying series of events over the weekend has left a small Texas community in shock after a 38-year-old man killed both his parents, shot a deputy in the face, and then took his own life.

The violence began in Harris County on Saturday, when deputies arrived at a home on Hillbrook Drive for a welfare check. Inside, they found a woman dead from a gunshot wound. Authorities quickly identified the victim as the suspect’s mother.
That discovery set off a wider manhunt, leading investigators to Normangee in Leon County, about two hours away. Deputies there approached the suspect, James Scott Grigory, to check on his mental state after concerns were raised. But as they tried to intervene, Grigory pulled a gun and opened fire—striking one deputy in the face and arm.
The deputy was rushed by helicopter to a hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. Officials say he remains in serious but stable condition and is expected to survive.
A SWAT team later entered the property and made a heartbreaking discovery. Inside, they found the suspect’s father dead, along with the family’s two dogs. Grigory himself was also found, dead from what authorities believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Texas Rangers are now leading the investigation as the community struggles to come to terms with the tragedy. A motive has not been confirmed, and the names of the victims have not yet been made public.
The deputy who was shot is being hailed as a hero for stepping in to prevent further violence, even as he paid a heavy price.
Residents in both Harris and Leon counties are reeling from the news. What started as a simple welfare check has turned into one of the most disturbing family tragedies seen in the area in recent memory.
