Palm Beach SVU Detectives Connect Suspect Through DNA, Wolfey Brice; 33, Charged with Sexual Battery, Burglary; Commend Florida Bill HB 1021

LAKE WORTH, FL – Palm Beach County Detectives from the Special Victims Unit have arrested Wolfey Brice, 33, for a residential burglary and sexual battery that took place in Lake Worth Beach early Sunday morning.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriffs Office, Brice, entered into an apartment through an unlocked rear door in the 1000 block of North F. Street, at 5:00 am, Sunday morning.

Police released a composite sketch of Brice however, after further investigation by SVU detectives Brice was identified through DNA. Brice was arrested and charged with Sexual Battery and Burglary with Battery. He is currently being booked into the Palm Beach County Jail and will be attending his first court appearance in the morning.

According to police, Florida Senate Bill HB 1021 was helpful in the arrest. The bill amends the Legislative Intent found in s. 943.325(1)(b), F.S., of the DNA Database statute. The bill adds language making it possible to use the match between casework evidence DNA samples from a criminal investigation and DNA samples from a state or federal DNA database to find probable cause to obtain a warrant for an offender’s arrest.

Charges are accusations and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
