FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – A Fort Lauderdale woman was pronounced dead early Monday morning after being struck by a vehicle.
According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at 5:42 a.m., at the intersection of State Road 7 and Riverland Road. A preliminary investigation determined the pedestrian, Maria Emilse Garcia, 72 years old, was crossing State Road 7 eastbound, near the designated crosswalk on the north side of Riverland Road. Garcia was crossing against the traffic signal when she stepped into the roadway and was struck by the driver.
The driver, a 60 year old Coral Springs woman, remained on scene and cooperated with detectives. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation.
