WASHINGTON, D.C. – Joe Biden’s son Hunter is not the only one getting jobs based on his family’s political connections. As it turns out, Paul Pelosi Jr., son of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.), was a board member for a company called Viscoil, a corporation registered in California, with ties to Ukraine.
The issue first came to light last month, when a promotional video from 2013 surfaced, bringing public attention to Pelosi by journalist Patrick Howley. The video begins with an introduction by Nancy Pelosi, in which she touts Obama “elevating science to a higher place in our national priorities.” It then includes her son.
My name’s Paul Pelosi. Of course, I’m on the board of Viscoil. And Viscoil is here today to talk about accelerating the future. It’s about using cars in a more efficient manner. It’s about utilizing natural resources, whether it be electricity, or gas, or fossil fuels in a more efficient way. And Viscoil is a part of that solution,” Paul Pelosi Jr. said in the video.
Most stories which have covered the issue mention travel to Ukraine by Pelosi Jr. in his role as the executive director of the Corporate Governance Initiative, where he spoke about soccer, being his only tie to Russia.
A single exception, debunked by fact-checking site Snopes, is said to be based only on an assumption; the site states that the entire link to Ukraine rests in an assertion that NRGLab built or intended to build a plant in Ukraine. The snopes site incorrectly lists the entire claim as false.
State records show that VISCOIL, started as VISCOIL HOLDINGS LLC with one of its owners residing in Moscow. It then changed its name later that year to PETROPURGE ML&L, INC, with its Moscow owner elevated to Chief Executive Officer and using a Phoenix, Arizona address of 17440 North Tatum Boulevard, an apartment complex.
Later in 2011, Sergey Sorokin and David Strawn together amended the corporation yet again to use the name VISCOIL MANUFACTURING, INC.
Further records show that Strawn also registered to operate a corporation under VISCOIL E&O, INC. in 2010. All of the Viscoil companies have been suspended by the California Franchise Tax Board.
On Oct 15 2009 media distribution company KINGDOM A LLC., was formed by the same people, David Strawn filed with Sergey Sorokin and adding a third person Anastasia Samolyova, again having Moscow Russia addresses.
Paul Jr. was also the President of Natural Blue Resources Inc., an investment company in which he owned over 10 million shares in 2009. The SEC charged the company with fraud and suspended trading in the company’s stock claiming the company was “secretly controlled” by others who had violated federal securities laws.
