PUNTA GORDA, FL – On May 6, 2022, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Babcock Ranch Community Patrol advising that a land development company had discovered skeletal remains while maintaining the Curry Creek Wildlife Preserve area on the east side of the Venice Florida community.
Charlotte County Major Crimes, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and Forensics Units collected and preserved evidence which detectives worked with the Medical Examiner and utilizing dental records to make a positive identification which is not uncommon to take weeks or even months.
On Wednesday, June 8, 2022, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the human skeletal were positively identified as Edward R. Gerdom, 61, of North Fort Myers. Gerdom hasn’t been seen since January 29, 2021.
According to authorities, Gerdom was last seen by family when he was dropped off at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers for care. Edward then checked out of Lee Memorial Health against medical recommendations and departed from the area without any further contact with family. Gerdom suffered from numerous physical and mental health ailments.
The family of Edward Gerdom have been notified and are assisting the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation. Currently, there are no signs of foul play, and the investigation is ongoing.
