Red Velvet Oreos Return to Shelves Just in Time for Holiday Season
In a nostalgic treat for fans, Mondelez International has announced that the limited-edition Red Velvet Oreos will be returning to grocery store shelves in the United States starting September 12th, just in time for the holiday season. Originally launched in 2015, the beloved red velvet cookie became an instant hit with consumers but was discontinued in 2020. With high demand from customers to bring it back, the cookie giant has relented and is re-releasing the seasonal favorite once again.
The cookies feature a classic Oreo wafer that is dyed red to resemble red velvet cake and is sandwiched with a cream cheese flavored filling. “Red velvet is consistently one of our consumers’ most requested flavors. We’re excited to bring it back this year for a limited time to delight our fans and allow them to celebrate the holidays with a product they know and love,” said Sandy Dewey, a spokesperson for Mondelez International.
News of the cookies’ triumphant return was met with widespread excitement on social media. On Twitter, the hashtag #RedVelvetOreos was trending as fans shared their joy!
Some observers noted that the timing of the re-release seems aimed at the busy holiday baking and cookie exchange season.
Mondelez reports that shipments of Red Velvet Oreos are already arriving at major grocery retailers nationwide like Walmart, Target, Kroger and Safeway. Demand is expected to be high so those hoping to get their hands on the festive cookies are advised to act quickly once they hit shelves. With the year-end holidays fast approaching, it seems these crimson cream-filled cookies have arrived just in the nick of time to satisfy seasonal sweet tooth. Only time will tell if they’ll remain a special seasonal surprise, or earn a permanent spot in the Oreo cookie lineup.
