Toyota Takes Action: Recalling 2 Million RAV4 SUVs for Battery Fire Danger
Toyota has issued a recall for approximately 1.9 million RAV4 small SUVs in the United States due to a potential safety concern related to the vehicle’s batteries.
The problem stems from a design issue that could lead to batteries moving during forceful turns, posing a fire risk.
The recall encompasses specific RAV4 models produced between 2013 and 2018.
According to Toyota, some replacement 12-volt batteries used in these SUVs have smaller top dimensions than others.
If the hold-down clamp securing the battery is not tightened correctly, it can allow the battery to shift.
In such a scenario, the positive terminal of the battery could come into contact with the clamp, potentially causing a short circuit, which may lead to a fire.
While Toyota has acknowledged the issue and is actively working on a solution, the company has not provided details about the fix.
However, once the remedy is ready, Toyota dealers will replace the hold-down clamp, battery tray, and positive terminal cover with improved components.
The company plans to notify affected vehicle owners by late December, providing them with information on how to proceed.
As of the announcement, Toyota has not disclosed whether the battery problem has resulted in reported incidents such as fires, accidents, or injuries.
In a demonstration of Toyota’s commitment to promptly addressing safety concerns and prioritizing the well-being of its customers, the company has initiated a recall.
For owners of RAV4 vehicles affected by the recall, there is an easy way to check if their SUVs are involved.
By visiting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website at www.nhtsa.gov/recalls and entering their vehicle identification number (VIN), owners can determine if their RAV4 is part of the recall and needs attention to address the battery issue.
Toyota encourages all vehicle owners to stay informed about recalls and promptly address any issues that may affect their vehicles.
Ensuring the safety and reliability of cars is of utmost importance to both automakers and consumers.
