USA’s Top 6 Underrated Destinations
Discover charming USA cities and destinations with less travel hassle, making them perfect for underrated destinations, national parks, and states.
There are often throngs of tourists at Yellowstone National Park, Times Square, as well as Disney World. However, there are still a lot of other US locations that are not well-known to tourists.
North Carolina’s Durham
Originally a tobacco factory town, Durham has transformed into a center for science, art, sports, and entertainment, centered on the revitalized American Tobacco Campus and downtown.
Visitors to the Duke Lemur Center can stroll through enormous forest habitats that support the survival of some of the rarest mammals on Earth. The city’s craft distillery and brewery scene, meanwhile, is completely absent.
Idaho’s Boise
The “City of Trees” is a great place to go for a short vacation where you can enjoy the great outdoors, and it was named one of Food & Wine’s top emerging cities for foodies.
Nearly 200 miles of trails, anchored by trailheads in the heart of Boise, await hikers and bikers in the foothills above the city.
In addition, you can ride a bike to visit wine, cider, as well as beer tasting rooms near Boise’s Greenbelt, a 25-mile trail that runs directly through the city. You can also explore any of the city’s 104 parks.
Arkansas’s Ouachita Mountains
Nestled within a valley on the southeast border of the Ouachita mountain range, Hot Springs National Park has garnered popularity ever since the first bathhouses opened their doors in the 1830s. However, not many tourists venture much farther into west-central Arkansas’s highlands.
New Mexico’s White Sands National Park
White Sands feels more like visiting an alien planet than a natural phenomenon, more like something out of a science fiction film. That is the peculiar nature of exploring the largest gypsum dune field in the world.
Hikers and sledders alike can enjoy the snow-white dunes. Plastic discs are available for purchase or rental at the visitor center gift shop if you didn’t bring your own toboggan.
Along a sandy wilderness trail, backpack camping is available for the night.

Texas’ Fort Worth
Known affectionately as “Cowtown,” Fort Worth is undoubtedly one of the most unusual places in the United States to go on vacation because it feels much more like you’re in the Great American West of legend than Dallas, which is more urban in feel. You can even bring your horse instead of your car to the ride-in movie theater.
Grand Staircase-National Monument in Utah’s Escalante
Grand Staircase-Escalante (GSE), the largest national monument in the Lower 48 states, is located in south-central Utah and covers nearly 1.9 million acres of mostly unpaved wilderness.
The isolated Escalante Canyons and a series of enormous plateaus that descend like a gigantic staircase between Bryce Canyon and Zion are the sources of the park’s name.
Under the Bureau of Land Management’s supervision, GSE provides ample opportunities for hiking, camping, and mountain biking in the wilderness.
