The House Ethics Committee’s Thursday report strongly accused Republican Rep. George Santos of New York, citing substantial evidence of lawbreaking.

This substantial evidence has been forwarded to the Justice Department, leading the committee to conclude that Santos, embroiled in a lengthy investigation, cannot be trusted.

Following the report’s publication, Santos vehemently criticized it on social media, denouncing it as a disgusting politicized smear. Despite his outcry, Santos announced he wouldn’t seek reelection for a second term.

However, he made no indication of an early departure, committing to uphold his conservative values until the end of his current congressional term.

The Ethics Committee’s findings painted a grim picture of Santos’ actions, alleging that he knowingly manipulated his campaign committee’s financial reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.

Moreover, the report accused him of misusing campaign funds for personal purposes and violating the Ethics in Government Act regarding financial disclosure statements submitted to the House.

The House Ethics Committee’s Thursday report strongly accused Republican Rep. George Santos of New York, citing substantial evidence of lawbreaking.

In a scathing 56-page report, the investigative subcommittee condemned Santos for attempting to exploit his House candidacy for personal financial gain, unanimously adopted by the full committee.

The committee also highlighted George Santos’ lack of cooperation during the investigation, labeling his behavior as evasive and lacking candor. It concluded that his conduct warranted public condemnation and severely tarnished the House’s dignity.

The Ethics Committee’s revelations might only scratch the surface of George Santos’ legal woes. Facing a federal indictment with 23 counts, Santos is accused of identity theft involving campaign donors and misusing their credit cards for unauthorized transactions, funneling funds into his personal account and his campaign.

Further allegations include falsely reporting a $500,000 campaign loan to Republican Party officials, despite having minimal funds. The Justice Department and the Brooklyn US attorney’s office, handling Santos’ case, declined to comment on the ethics report.

Santos’ political future remains uncertain amid mounting legal challenges, with a potential House vote for his expulsion on the horizon upon its return from the Thanksgiving holiday.
