Julianna Margulies Issues Apology Over Comments on Black and LGBTQ+ Support for Palestinians

Julianna Margulies sparked controversy by linking reactions to the Israeli conflict with support for marginalized groups in a podcast conversation.

In a statement released over the weekend, Margulies issued a heartfelt apology for her remarks, expressing deep regret for any offense caused.

The episode on The Back Room with Andy Ostroy podcast stirred controversy after Margulies shared her sentiments about the lack of support she felt from communities she and others had previously stood by in times of crisis, specifically addressing the aftermath of an attack on Israel. 

Referencing her past advocacy for Black communities post-George Floyd’s murder and her involvement in a same-sex marriage campaign, Margulies expressed disappointment at what she perceived as a lack of reciprocity during the recent conflict in Israel and Gaza.

Her comments, however, sparked outrage, particularly when she seemed to generalize entire communities’ stances on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Margulies mentioned instances of alleged discrimination against Jews, citing a supposed incident at Columbia University where a club reportedly excluded Jews from a movie screening.
