Elon Musk’s social media company, X, experienced a major upheaval, the largest since the tech magnate purchased the website formerly known as Twitter.
Over 94,000 users reported having problems with X at 1:41 PM Hong Kong time on Thursday, according to reports from Downdetector, a service that tracks website outages. But after an hour, there were only about 7,000 issues recorded, suggesting that the interruption was gradually becoming better.
Since Musk acquired the San Francisco-based platform for a staggering $44 billion in late 2022, X has grappled with intermittent outages.
However, none matched the scale witnessed during this recent incident, except for the episode in April of the same year, affecting around 50,000 users.
The cause behind this widespread disruption remains undisclosed, leaving users and industry observers curious about the circumstances leading to the outage.
Among the reported issues, approximately 70% were linked to problems encountered on X’s application, while the remaining 20% reported difficulties accessing the platform through its website.
Elon Musk’s Silence Sparks Speculation
Surprisingly, X’s official account did not comment or acknowledge the outage despite the significant impact. When attempting to contact the company’s press office for clarification or comments, automated responses stating a high volume of inquiries were received, with the message “Busy now, please check back later.”
Due to Elon Musk’s X’s official channels being silent, consumers and industry experts are left in search of clarification regarding the type and scope of the outage.
Tech circles are full of conjecture; some blame the disruption on possible technological hiccups, while others conjecture on more complex system-wide problems.
For a platform as widely accessed and influential as X, even temporary outages can cause ripples across its extensive user base. As the outage appears to be subsiding, many will be monitoring the platform’s stability and the company’s forthcoming communication regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, users are advised to stay tuned for updates and to watch for any official statements regarding the recent disruption on Elon Musk’s social media platform, X.
