Apple’s Vision Pro: A $3,500 Entertainment Powerhouse, but Netflix App Not Included
Netflix’s decision not to launch a dedicated app for Apple’s much-anticipated Vision Pro dealt a setback to Apple’s efforts to establish the device as a premier entertainment hub.
In an official statement, Netflix conveyed that users utilizing Vision Pro would retain access to Netflix content. However, the stipulation was that such access could only be facilitated through the utilization of a web browser.
This move, first reported by Bloomberg, signals a competitive stance from Netflix, a direct rival of Apple in the streaming industry, as both companies vie for dominance with Netflix going head-to-head with Apple TV+.
During its recent announcement, Apple placed significant emphasis on the entertainment features of Vision Pro, marketing it as the “ultimate entertainment device.”
The device was set to launch with exclusive 3D movies from Disney Plus and dedicated apps for Discovery+, Amazon Prime Video, and Paramount +. However, the absence of dedicated support from Netflix poses a challenge to Apple’s vision for the Vision Pro.
Apple’s Milestone and the Debut of Vision Pro
While earlier indications suggested that the Netflix iPad app would be compatible, users will now have to rely solely on the web browser to stream Netflix content, potentially missing out on the immersive features and functionalities of the Vision Pro.
The $3,499 Vision Pro is slated for release on February 2, marking a significant moment for Apple as it enters a new product category after nearly a decade. Despite early reviews praising the device’s crystal-clear displays, concerns have been raised about its lack of a clear purpose.
As the rivalry between tech giants continues to unfold, the absence of Netflix’s dedicated app on the Vision Pro raises questions about the device’s ability to fully deliver on its promise as the ultimate home entertainment system, leaving consumers and industry observers eager to see how Apple will respond to this unexpected setback.
Apple did not provide immediate comment in response to inquiries made by Business Insider outside of normal working hours.
