Virginia Tech’s women’s basketball center, Elizabeth Kitley, has etched her name in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) history by becoming only the third player ever to claim the league’s Player of the Year title for three consecutive seasons.
Standing tall at 6-foot-6, the graduate standout was awarded this prestigious honor in a ceremony held on Tuesday, just ahead of the commencement of the ACC tournament.
The ACC’s accolades, unveiled on Tuesday, not only celebrated Kitley’s remarkable achievement but also recognized the exceptional talents across the conference.
Among the notable winners was Notre Dame’s freshman sensation, Hannah Hidalgo, who scooped up dual honors as both the Rookie and Defensive Player of the Year.
Elizabeth Kitley Makes ACC History
Meanwhile, Felisha Legette-Jack of Syracuse University, guiding her team to the No. 20 spot, secured the title of the ACC’s Top Coach.
Kitley’s triumphant streak, however, faces a temporary setback as she grapples with an apparent knee injury, leaving her participation in future games uncertain.
Nonetheless, her remarkable feat places her in elite company alongside Alana Beard of Duke (2002-04) and Alyssa Thomas of Maryland (2012-14), who are the only other players to have clinched the ACC Player of the Year award for three consecutive seasons.
The individual accolades didn’t stop there, as Duke’s Oluchi Okananwa claimed the Sixth Player of the Year title, while Pittsburgh’s Liatu King was recognized as the Most Improved Player.

Kitley Leads All-ACC First Team
As for the All-ACC First Team, Kitley naturally headlined the lineup, joined by the likes of Hidalgo, Dyaisha Fair, her Virginia Tech teammate Georgia Amoore, and Florida State’s Ta’Niya Latson.
Their inclusion underscores their exceptional performances and contributions throughout the season, earning them the nod as the top vote-getters in the conference.
While Kitley’s injury casts a shadow over her immediate future on the court, her legacy as a dominant force in ACC basketball is firmly cemented. As the tournament unfolds, all eyes will be on Kitley and her teammates as they strive for further glory on the hardwood.
