Patriots Secure Kendrick Bourne with Lucrative 3-Year, $33M Agreement

Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne has reached an agreement on a three-year contract to rejoin the New England Patriots, which could potentially amount to $33 million, as confirmed by his agent, Henry Organ of Disruptive Sports, to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Sunday.

The contract encompasses a signing bonus of $4.2 million.

Bourne, who will turn 29 on August 4, is in the process of recuperating from a torn right ACL sustained during a game against the Miami Dolphins on October 29.

Before his injury, Bourne was enjoying a standout season, amassing 37 receptions for 406 yards and four touchdowns in eight games, indicating a trajectory towards a career-best performance.

Bourne has emerged as one of the few positive aspects within the New England offensive lineup, which has exhibited subpar performance in recent years. 

Throughout his three-season tenure with the Patriots, Bourne has amassed 127 receptions for 1,640 yards and 10 touchdowns across 41 games.

Even amidst a challenging 2023 season, Bourne was on track for a career-best performance with the Patriots, evidenced by his statistics of 37 catches, 406 yards, and four touchdowns in eight games before sustaining a torn ACL during a Week 8 road loss to the Dolphins.

During an appearance on “NFL Total Access” on Thursday, Bourne emphasized his anticipation of receiving medical clearance for the commencement of the 2024 season, particularly following consultations with renowned surgeon Neal ElAttrache. 

ElAttrache, known for his work with notable athletes such as Tom Brady, Kobe Bryant, Shohei Ohtani, and others, has provided reassurance regarding Bourne’s recovery prospects.

Bourne’s Desire to Stay with Patriots

Earlier on Sunday, Josina Anderson of CBS Sports disclosed a significant disparity in contract negotiations between the Patriots and Bourne. 

However, Bourne has consistently expressed his desire to continue playing for the team throughout the offseason.

Bourne and the Patriots have since gained clarity, as New England reportedly secured another vital offensive asset in tight end Hunter Henry, signing him to a three-year contract on Friday.

Despite Henry and Bourne now allegedly committed to the team through the 2026 season, the Patriots are anticipated to aggressively pursue additional offensive talent once free agency commences this week.

Jeremy Fowler’s report on Sunday, New England is expected to pursue Calvin Ridley vigorously, who is speculated to be one of the premier wide receivers available in the market this week.
