The Los Angeles Lakers have officially announced that they are addressing three spelling errors discovered on the base of the Kobe Bryant statue recently revealed outside Crypto Arena.

The Lakers stated that they were already aware of the typos for weeks, but chose not to address it until it gained widespread attention on Monday.

A tweet by a German journalist gained widespread attention on Monday for pointing out errors on the statue, such as misspelling the names of Jose Calderon and Von Wafer in a section about Bryant’s 81-point game against the Toronto Raptors.

Calderon’s name is listed as “Calderson” on the statue, and Von Wafer is written as “Vom Wafer”. There is a formatting mistake among the Hall of Famers career achievements and a reference to a coaching “decicion”.

The Los Angeles Lakers have officially announced that they are addressing three spelling errors discovered on the base of the Kobe Bryant statue recently revealed outside Crypto Arena.

Minor formatting mistakes can be observed on the base of the statue, which showcases some of Bryant’s milestones, such as the box score from his 81-point game in January 2006.

The team mentioned they have been aware of the issue for a few weeks and are currently working on correcting it.

The box score has been engraved into the marble base of the 19-foot bronze statue, capturing Bryant’s post game celebration after his second highest-scoring game in NBA history.

Every day, a large crowd of fans congregates around the statue, which is surrounded by other statues commemorating legendary Los Angeles athletes outside the arena.

The statue is the first of three sculptures of Bryant that will be placed outside the downtown arena, as confirmed by his widow, Vanessa.

The first statue to honor Bryant was revealed by the Lakers on Feb. 8.

Bryant, along with his daughter Gianna and seven others, tragically passed away in a helicopter crash in January 2020.

Bryant spent his entire 20-year career with the Lakers, securing five championships. He ranks fourth in scoring in NBA history.
