Brissett, a former third-round pick as well as one-time Super Bowl champion, spent the 2023 season playing for the Washington Commanders yet additionally played for the New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts, as well as Cleveland Browns.

Brissett, 31, was drafted in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Patriots and is now returning to potentially compete for a starting position or serve as a temporary option until a new player is added.

New England initiated changes to its QB room on Sunday by trading Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars as well as signing an eight-year veteran who had a standout 2023 season with the Washington Commanders, making a strong impact coming off the bench. 

Brissett stepped in for Sam Howell and threw for three touchdowns and 224 yards in three games.

His performance in DC followed 11 starts with the Cleveland Browns when Deshaun Watson was serving his suspension. 

Brissett threw 12 touchdowns and six interceptions in his single season in Cleveland.

A reliable option when needed, Brissett is the initial move in revamping the Patriots QB group, with his one-year contract suggesting that New England may be eyeing the upcoming draft for a potential future franchise QB.

Brissett’s Journey: From Patriots to Colts and Beyond

After completing his first season, the Patriots traded Jacoby Brissett to the Indianapolis Colts in return for wide receiver Phillip Dorsett. 

Brissett took over as the main starter in 2017 with Andrew Luck out for the entire season. In 15 starts, the quarterback had a completion rate of 58.8% with 3,098 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

Luck made his comeback in 2018, and Brissett returned to the bench. After his unexpected retirement in 2019, Brissett returned to the team. 

The experienced player completed 60.9% of his passes, ending the season with 2,942 yards, 18 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

Following two seasons as a backup, Jacoby Brissett secured an opportunity to start on a one-year deal with the Cleveland Browns.

 While waiting for Deshaun Watson, the experienced player threw for 2,608 yards, completing 64.0% of his passes with 12 touchdowns and six interceptions.
