TAMPA, FLORIDA – MARCH 06: Juan Soto #22 of the New York Yankees looks to the crowd prior to a 2024 Grapefruit League Spring Training game against the Tampa Bay Rays at George M. Steinbrenner Field on March 06, 2024 in Tampa, Florida.

The Yankees knew about his contract when they acquired him and will probably make every effort to retain Soto in their team beyond this season.

However, the 25-year-old is anticipated to consider his options in free agency.

Rumors suggest that the New York Mets are closely monitoring Soto and are likely to pursue him in the upcoming offseason.

Shohei Ohtani recently signed a record-breaking contract in North American sports history by agreeing to a $700 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Before Ohtani’s historic deal, no MLB contract had ever exceeded $500 million.

Eli Ben-Porat from Baseball America forecasted that the Yankees are willing to go to great lengths to retain Juan Soto in the Bronx. He finds it surprising that they would allow Soto to leave after only one year.

Soto is represented by the well-known Scott Boras. Ben-Porat believes that Soto will likely agree to a 15-year contract worth $701 million to stay with the Yankees, surpassing Ohtani’s current $700 million deal.

Yankees Make Big Moves: Acquire Soto in Major Trade

The Yankees traded right-handers Michael King, Drew Thorpe, Jhony Brito, and Randy Vazquez, along with catcher Kyle Higashioka, to acquire Juan Soto.

This is quite a substantial package, and the Yankees clearly had long-term plans in mind when making those trades.

Anticipate the Yankees to spare no expense in keeping a top-tier talent like Juan Soto on their team.

First and foremost, the Yankees must demonstrate their competitiveness following the tumultuous 2023 season.

If they are not in a position to contend for a postseason berth by August, Soto will likely consider his other options.
