Caleb Williams Impresses Chicago Bears Scouts at USC Pro Day

With slightly more than a month remaining until the commencement of the 2024 NFL Draft, Caleb Williams showcased his extensive skill set during USC’s Pro Day. 

This event drew significant attention, as all 32 teams in the league dispatched observers, notably the Chicago Bears, who were prominently represented by nine personnel.

The Pro Day primarily serves as a platform for players to exhibit their abilities before scouts, representatives, and senior executives from various teams. 

It lacks the competitive elements of offense and defense, with the plays performed solely for demonstrative purposes.

Regarding Williams, he executed several passes from within the pocket to showcase his accuracy in short and medium-range throws. 

Towards the conclusion, he displayed the full extent of his arm strength, occasionally launching deep passes.

Conscious of the proceedings, Williams acknowledged at the session’s end, “I aimed to deliver an impressive performance out here today. I believe it went smoothly.”

Despite having already met with the player’s top management the day preceding the Pro Day, on Wednesday, they reappeared at the demonstration with no fewer than nine representatives.

Teams Pay Close Attention to Williams’ Pro Day Display

Leading the contingent was General Manager Ryan Poles, accompanied by Assistant General Manager Ian Cunningham, Head Coach Matt Eberflus, Offensive Coordinator Shane Waldron, Quarterbacks Coach Kerry Joseph, and even newly acquired wide receiver Keenan Allen.

Each member exhibited keen interest in Williams’ performance, while also observing some of his teammates. It is noteworthy that Williams opted out of participating in the Scouting Combine tests last month, although he was present during the sessions.

While Williams is likely to be the Bears’ first overall pick this year, nothing is definitive. Negotiations are underway behind closed doors across all teams, and surprises should not be discounted. This explains why all teams sought to be present on this day to witness the quarterback’s performance and gauge the draft atmosphere leading up to April 25th.
