The team’s resolute determination was evident in the second quarter, which led to a rally and a decisive advantage in the fourth.

Ohio State was put to the test once again as starting guard Celeste Taylor fouled out early in the fourth quarter, adding to their already difficult task of containing Duke’s momentum.

The Blue Devils took the lead at 63-57 and practically sealed the victory with a crucial 7-0 run with little over three minutes left.

Cotie McMahon of Ohio State put up a respectable 27 points, but it was not enough to stop Duke’s onslaught, as the Buckeyes’ quest for a third straight Sweet 16 participation was dashed.

Duke’s Journey to Sweet 16 Glory

There were many unknowns on Duke’s path to this victory after ACC Defensive Player of the Year Taylor transferred to Ohio State.

However, the Blue Devils overcame obstacles and welcomed fresh talent under the direction of head coach Kara Lawson, who is about to begin her fourth season in charge.

Even though Duke had a modest 20-11 record going into the NCAA Women’s Tournament, they showed off their strong defense and strategic ability by defeating Richmond in the first round and now Ohio State.

Duke has shown to be a strong contender as they make it to the Sweet 16 because to their tenacity and flexibility.

As they prepare for their upcoming battle against the winner of UConn against Syracuse in Portland, the Blue Devils are well-positioned to create a big impression thanks to a lineup that combines experience and up-and-coming talent.
