James Stewart Sister – It was a mix of emotions on Friday when the ex-Jaguars running back James Stewart announced the team’s second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Stewart, who played for five seasons with the Jaguars, is considered one of the top backs in the team’s history.

He had the privilege of revealing the team’s selection of LSU defensive tackle Maason Smith at No. 48 in 2024. While Jaguars fans were excited about the new addition to the defensive line, Stewart shared some heartbreaking news at the event – the passing of his younger sister.

Stewart, a former running back with eight seasons in the NFL, was drafted as the No. 19 overall pick in the 1995 NFL Draft.

He spent five years with the Jaguars from 1995-99 before finishing his career with the Lions (2000-02). Known for his college career at Tennessee, Stewart currently holds the third-most rushing yards and rushing touchdowns in Jaguars history.

Prior to announcing the Jaguars’ second-round pick, Stewart disclosed the tragic news of his “baby sister’s passing” the night before. He expressed gratitude to the city of Detroit and requested fans to keep him and his family in their prayers. The cause of death remains unknown.

Stewart, though not a standout in the NFL, was a dependable back during his time in the league. His most productive seasons were with the Lions. After his tenure in Jacksonville, Stewart moved to the NFC North, signing with the Lions in free agency before the 2000 season.

He achieved a career-high of 1,184 rushing yards in his initial season with the Lions. While his numbers dipped in 2001, he surpassed the 1,000-yard mark again in 2002, his final season in the league.
